Criteration E: Evaluate

After completing my project a evaluation was necessary as the final step to the artist portfolio. The following several questions are a few questions i will use to test and evaluate my cd. The goal of this project is to make a better artist portfolio so i will be testing to see if i did. These are the questions.

Is the cd rom that i used durable?

is the cd-rom with the case easy to transport?

Was it expensive to buy the cd-rom?

Was my final product better than the modern artist portfolio?

To test if the cd i used was durable i did several tests. I used a blank cd , the same type as mine and performeed these tests. The first thing i did was bent it until it broke. Surprisingly it didn’t break right away , i literally had to rip it because it wasn’t cracking. Then i took a lighter and burnt it. But it didn’t catch fire it just made a black spot on the cd. So overall the cd is very durable but the only thing that would stop it from being good is scratches. With careness you should be able to avoid getting scratches.

To  check if i was able to transport the cd i did several tests. I decided your best and safest bet would just to put it in your backpack but not everyone always wants to carry a backpack around with them so that won’t work. With the cd case i tried putting it in my lmac pants, but my pants don’t really fit me well so it was tight. I then asked my friend who has regular lmac pants to try it out and he was able to put it in his pocket. With tracks it went in easily but i don’t suggest you carry it in tracks because when you sit down things tend to fall out depending on the pocket. Jeans would be a good bet , but if they are tight you will see the corners through ur jeans. The best pants were lmac pants or suit pants because they are similar with those they are easy to transport. In plus the cd case is small you can slip it anywhere and it’s very liught so there shouldn’t be problems there.

The least of my problems was the price of the cd. These things go for about a dollar each and i didn’t buy the best ones out there, but i bought good ones. The reason i didn’t buy the best ones was because i know i’d be breaking them and testing out things with the cd’s. Also i split a box with my friend so we both got a good price.

The point of this project was to create a better artist portfolio than the modern one used today. this would consist of a big folder with all your work inside. It is difficult to carry around because it is big and it is a hassle to leave with the galleries because all your work is inside and you can’t show it to more than one gallery at a time, and if they loose it that’s all your work down the drain.  At first i wanted to use the idea of making a website but many other people have jumped to that idea, and to think i have never created a website and it would be far more complicated learning new programs. So i decided to put it on a cd. Cd was a good idea because it’s small and i already have experience with making them, also i used photoshop and i was very familiar with the program since i used it already for the previous project.  Before finding this final idea of a cd i had many changes because i wasn’t sure what i wanted to do.

Create Week Of April 20

This week was the final week before the end of complketing our project. It was a busy for everyone especially the people in the fashion show, so we had to use our classtime wisely. I just had some touchups on photoshop and then when i was done i put everything on a cd. Then i designed a cover for the case but this wasn’ that hard all i took was some formatting. After that was done i printed my label for my cd. I scanned a picture i drew and put it on the cd. I then gave it to my mom to see if it worked also at her work. Everythign was okay and ready to hand in.

Create Week Of April 13

This week i finished all my photoshop pictues. I had to make a few altercations as mr.penning told me that i was taking away a bit too much from the picture. For example i was altering the original photo too much and fitting it into the background. So i fixed this problem and was able to complete my work. Also this week i had to buy paper so i could print my cd cover on it. I also had a struggle with not being reptitve with my backgrounds as i was tending to use the same design but i got over that hump and created better ones. For next week i hope to burn all my designs on a cd and print the cd cover and a sheet to put inside the case.

Create Week Of April 6

We found out that our project was exntended to april 29th. Which is perfect since we have a lot of things coming up that will be time consuming. It will give us all more time and releive the stress abit. This week i continued on doing my photo shop designs. I got 3 done so far so i am on a pretty good pace. Also i had to ask my brother if he is able to print me the cd cover, and he said it wouldn’t be a problem. So basically i just re copied all my designs and made them neater and sharper. I chose my best one which was also the first one i designed and i will use that. Next week hoping to finish all my photoshop work.

Create Week Of march 30

This is the week were i will start working on photoshop to create my artistic work. I will not alter any of andy warhol’s pictures i will simply just put them on a background and write a brief description. About all 6 of them will be like this besides one which will be a colorful page with my artist statement. This week i was able too use the computer for half a class each time. I got about all my pictures and started to work on my first design on photoshop. I realized one picture per page is sufficient as if i minimize it will reduce quality of a photo. Especially that i want each picture to be focused on just as much as the other, so i beleive the only way is to have a picture a page . In total i will have 7 pages in my portfolio.

Create Week of March 23

Unfortunately this is the week i went on vacation so i got nothing done in class. But what i did do outsid eof class was find a lot of good paintings by andy warhol and alot of things that reflect upon pop art.

Design Modifications

A lot like the others in the class i replaced my biography with my artist statement. I saw that a lot of people were doing this but even if they weren’t i was going to do it anyways because i think my artist statement has enough info about me inside.

Create Week Of March 16

In this week of march 16 i got some good work done for my project. Mainly i did my cd designs and they are almost done besides few final copies left to do . I also worked on  my artist statement in class, i did some research and what would be a good statement and i beleive i did a pretty strong artist statement. Also one class this week i took yp the whole class to do my case study. It was a lot of writing and takes pretty long but it isn’t hard at all. They are meant for junior high anyways . At this age we shouldn’t find them complicated. Hopefully next week i’ll get even more work done.

Artist Statement

Art is a way to express yourself. A way to show your thoughts and feelings through colors and designs. Art is about using your imagination and going wild with it.  I call myself a pop artist because i like to use popular culture in my work. Bright colors and comic strip style drawings are all about what makes my art unique and different. This is a wild form of art and the art you would see on the cover of a beatles album. This is the art that inspired grafiti art and many different arts. This art is something that everyone could understand because it is art made with things we see everyday in our lives. Pop art allows us to make wild and coloful art from things like a soup can to a popular celebrity we know. Pop art is used also for consumer products such as the coca cola logo and the campbell soup can. Pop art is one of the most fashionable arts as it attracts the eye of many people. You have seen pop art also used in things such as an ipod commercial and did you see how many of those things they have sold.

My goal is to add brightness to ones day by seeing one of my works. Not just saying “what is that painting about?” or “can you make that one out?” but i want people’s reaction to be “that is brilliant and original”. Pop art is my way of expressing myself knowing i can take something simple like an object and make it into something wilder and more colorful.

In my portfolio you will find my best work and a biography of myself. This is the kind of art i have chosen to express myself and it is what i belive best suits me. It allows me to use my imagination and break all barriers. With pop art the sky is the limit.

Is technology making kids lazy?

Nowadays we have all kinds of new gadgets and gizmo’s that everyone wants to get there hands on. Technology is evolving and more and more people are getting into it. For example the other day i was on the bus and i saw a kid from john paul texting on his blackberry. I remeber when i was in john paul no one would even think of having a phone like that, your used to seeing men in suits and bosses of companies using a phone like that. Then wouldn’t you know junior high students have it. The biggest problem of technology is xbox and ps3. These are really cool consoles and i even own one but i am even being a little hypocritical when i say this but it does make you lazier. There are teens who are hooked on this to the point where it takes away there social life and there athletic life and all they want to do is play xbox. I don’t play xbox that much anymore but there were times last year when instead of going to the gym after school of doing homework i would play xbox. I only did this because of a game i really liked and once i beat that game i realized i haven’t accomplished much besides beeting a stupid game. I haven’t gone into the real world and done anything constructive, all i did was beet a stupid game. But there are kids who are hooked and play online and just play countless hours each day. These are the kids who are affected by technology and they don’t even realize. It can become like a drug once you start it you can’t stop it. You need it in your life or your life isn’t the same. If you use technology properly and don’t overuse it it’s prefect. Don’t get me wrong technology doesn’t make everyone lazy because not everyone is the same. This is a good example of why technology is good. for example instead of wasting trees and writing on paper im writing my blog on the computer and saving paper. Overall kids are going to get more and more lazier because of technology because it is just going to keep getting better and better and you won’t be able to stay away.

Are the pepsi max ads taking it too far?

I’d have to say pepsi’s current ad of one lonely calorie commiting suicide is something new and something people haven’t seen before therefore that’s why they are reacting this way. It does look a little stupid and a twisted attempt to make some money. It is original however and i find it pretty cool. Anything that is original will grad some attention and i reward pepsi for there originality. For example because they did that i’ll remeber this advertisement. If you ask me about other coca cola like coca cola zero and other diet sodas, i won’t remeber them. This is way different because it’s controversial. Controversy will attract attention. Also one thing that the advertisement did to me was that i’d actualy like to try the new pepsi max, just to see what it would be to drink only one calorie.

This is real advertisement. Advertisement means to advertise something and pepsi did they’re job on this one. One thing i have to disagree with them though and why i think it is abit stupid, is because it isn’t right what they did, especially to the people who have had friends and family commit suicide. It is a slap in the face to them. In a way they did take it a bit too far with that one. Instead of the calorie killing itself because it is so lonely, they could have made it do other things. I don’t have that many great suggestions because i am not an advertiser but maybe they could of advertised it as having a healthier lifestyle and drawn the calorie playing sports rather than killing itself. That is why although i think it is something original and pretty cool, i don’t like the way they’re trying to make money here. I never had someone close to me commit suicide but i heard stories and on there behalf that is why i do beleive they are taking it too far with this advertisement.
